Update: April 10, 2026

Warning — April 16, 2026: Pre-filled tax returns are automatically finalized on 16/4/2026. If you don’t review your data before April 15, AADE will submit your return for you — even if it contains errors. Read below to find out what you need to check.

Greek Tax Return 2026: Everything You Need to Know

The myAADE platform opened on March 16, 2026 for filing individual tax returns (tax year 2025). For the third consecutive year, returns are pre-filled and pre-calculated — 1,357,222 declarations covering 1,553,123 taxpayers are already available.

This means that if you do nothing, your return is automatically submitted. This can be convenient — or disastrous, if the pre-filled data isn’t correct.

The April 16 Trap: What You Must Check NOW

On April 16, AADE automatically finalizes all pre-filled returns that have not been manually submitted. If your data is correct, this is convenient. If not, you’ll need to file an amendment.

What to check before April 15

1. Income (Table 4 of E1)

  • Verify that the salary/pension shown matches your pay certificates
  • If you changed employers during 2025, ensure both incomes appear
  • Any rental income must be declared on Form E2

2. Family status (Table 1)

  • Check whether the return is filed jointly or separately (for married couples)
  • If separate filing has not been selected, the return is automatically pre-filled as joint
  • Verify that dependent children are correctly listed — this affects the new 2026 tax brackets

3. Living expense indicators (Table 5)

  • Objective expenditures have been reduced by 30-50% this year (residences, vehicles, boats)
  • Check that property and vehicle details are correct
  • For small settlements (up to 1,500 residents): 50% reduction for professionals

4. IBAN

  • Without a correct IBAN, you won’t receive any tax refund
  • Check in myAADE: Registry & Contact → IBAN Account Declaration
  • The account must be in your name

5. New E1 codes for 2026

  • Code 079: Dependent unmarried children up to age 25 (students, DYPA-registered, military service)
  • Codes 045-046: New mothers in professional activity — exempt from living indicators for the year of birth + 2 following years
  • Codes 877-878-879: New column for dependent children’s Tax ID Numbers

Tip: If you’re unsure about anything, submit your return before April 15 — even if it’s not perfect. You can always file an amendment without penalties until July 15, 2026.

Step-by-Step: How to File on myAADE

Step 1: Log in to myAADE

Go to myaade.gov.gr and log in with your TAXISnet credentials. If you don’t have credentials, you can obtain them online via gov.gr or at a KEP (Citizens’ Service Centre).

Step 2: Verify your personal details

Before opening your return, confirm:

  • Your personal information (Tax ID, date of birth, marital status)
  • Your IBAN account in Registry & Contact
  • Dependent member details

Step 3: Select the E1 return

Under Declarations → Income Tax, select the E1 return for tax year 2025. The form will appear with your pre-filled data.

Step 4: Review each table

Review the tables in order:

  • Table 1: Personal information, dependent members
  • Table 4: Income (employment, rental, etc.)
  • Table 5: Living expense indicators (property, vehicles)
  • Table 6: Information items (foreign bank accounts, etc.)

Step 5: Save draft or finalize

  • Save draft: Saves your changes without submitting
  • Final submission: Submits the return — you receive a declaration number and tax assessment

Step 6: Print your tax assessment

After submission, save or print the tax assessment notice. This shows the tax you owe (or the refund you’re entitled to) and the instalment schedule.

This means:

  • If you filed manually but forgot something → amend for free until 15/7
  • After July 15, amendments incur penalties

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I do nothing before April 16?

Your pre-filled return is automatically finalized based on the data AADE has on file. If the data is correct, you don’t need to do anything. If there are errors, you can still file a penalty-free amendment until July 15, 2026.

When will I receive my tax refund?

If your return shows a credit balance (AADE owes you money), the refund is deposited to the IBAN account you’ve registered on myAADE. Make sure the account is active and in your name. Refunds are typically processed within a few weeks of assessment.

Can I file my return myself?

Yes. Most salaried employees and pensioners can file without an accountant, especially if their return is pre-filled. However, if you have income from multiple sources (rental, freelance, abroad), a tax advisor may save you money.

Will I pay less tax this year?

With the new 2026 brackets, most taxpayers will see a reduction. The exact amount depends on your age, children, and income level. Use the gross to net calculator to see your specific case.

I’m a freelancer — what changes for me?

Beyond the new brackets, freelancers benefit from reduced tax prepayments in 2026. Compare employment vs freelance in the Employee vs B2B calculator.

What if I also have rental income?

You’ll need to complete Form E2 (rental income declaration) in addition to E1. Rental income is taxed at separate rates. Check whether the amounts shown in your pre-filled return match the rent you actually collected.

I’m an expat — do I need to file in Greece?

If you’re a Greek tax resident (living in Greece for 183+ days per year), you must file a Greek tax return on your worldwide income. If you’re a non-resident with Greek-source income (e.g., rental property in Greece), you must also file for that income. Use myAADE with your TAXISnet credentials — the platform is available in Greek only, but this guide covers the key steps.
